PRSI Programme of activities 2008/09

There is something here for everyone!  We have an integrated programme of lively and participatory activities to develop pedagogic research capacity at the University of Gloucestershire. These will take place through 08/09. These build on PRSI’s successes of previous years, draw on the expertise of internal and external experts and have been developed in the light of your feedback on PRSI events we ran last year. We encourage all members of the University community to get involved and find out more!  This includes aspiring and expert researchers, Professoriate and Readers, Heads of Department, Teaching Fellows, colleagues in LIS and research students. Please get these dates in your diaries!

PRSI Landmark Events

We have three major events with external participation taking place this year:

The PRSI Burns' Academic Writing Day: Learning New Tools on Friday 23rd January 2009, Park Campus. This event will explore innovative practice in writing for different audiences.

The PRSI Annual Conference on Wednesday 10th June will be run jointly with IRIS. The theme is transformational learning with a focus on ESD and internationalisation. Presented by Lindsey McEwen, Kenny Lynch (PRSI) and Daniella Tilbury (IRIS). Further details to be confirmed.

Research Projects in Progress (over 2007/2008 and 2008/2009. All recipients of PRSI research funding will present on their projects - as work in progress or end of project reports. The event will also involve a reflection on the experience of pilot project scheme. Hosted by Lindsey McEwen and Kenny Lynch. May 2009. Further details to be confirmed.

PRSI Project Grants

There will be another bidding round this year for pilot projects around £5K that link into the PRSI’s research themes.  This year the process of bidding will be more formative, including calls for specific themes. It is normally expected that you will attend the ‘Getting Funded’ workshop in the Support for PedR series.

More information specific to this activity is available on the Funding Page, but please note that the deadlines are as follows:

  • Statement of Interest - 30th November 2008
  • Full Submission - 31st January 2009
  • Final Outcome - 21st February 2009  

Workshops with External Facilitators

The PRSI has a number of external advisers who are working with us to develop our key themes and our activities. Each has been invited to give a workshop during their two years' appointment.

Annual Writing Project 2007/2008

Annual Writing Project 2008/2009

The project will take place from January to December 2009 and will incorporate a two day writing retreat away from Cheltenham, in Ross on Wye. This is scheduled for 22nd/23rd (Monday/Tuesday) June 2009 and this element is only available for people who can be there for the full two days. Want to know more? LATHE (University's refereed Journal for Learning and Teaching in HE)

This journal is now run jointly between PRSI and LETS. The University's refereed journal, Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE) in now accepting expressions of interest for Issue 4 - Scholarship of Work-based Learning. Expressions of interest should be submitted by 30th January 2009 at the latest - although we would encourage authors to submit expressions of interest as early as possible - and final papers are to be submitted by 31st March 2009. Please note that the expression of interest will be forwarded to the Review Panel for the purposes of choosing potential papers for the journal. Further details are available on our website
