Undergraduate Modular Scheme
Combined Studies (CB)
Information for Current Students
The information listed here is designed to help current students studying Combined Studies (CB).
Combined Studies (CB) offers you maximum freedom in designing a programme tailored to your personal needs and interests. Its aims are:
- To provide programmes of study to meet the needs of individual students which cannot be met by named courses.
- To maximise freedom of choice within the rules of the Undergraduate Modular Scheme.
Combined Studies can be taken as:
- Single Honours (eg a BA or BSc in Combined Studies)
- Joint Honours (eg BA in Combined Studies and History)
You can take Combined Studies as part of an Honours Degree or as part of an Ordinary (Unclassified) Degree.
CHANGING TO COMBINED STUDIES
To change to Combined Studies you need to make an appointment to meet a course leader who will work with you to:
- Develop a Proposal, including selection of modules which will make up your programme of study.
- Complete a M50 Change of Course form.
The selection of modules should follow the ‘Programme Rules’ presented below. Once the selection is approved by Helpzone staff, a record of your intentions will be taken. However, note that you will still have to register for the modules in the normal way via Student Records Online.
Any subsequent changes to the modules you take for Combined Studies must be approved by Helpzone staff.

- Normally, you may not include modules with the same course code as your other Joint course. However, you can include EL modules provided they appear on a Course map other than that for your Joint course.
- Include as many Skills for Learning & Employability (SLE) or Modern Languages (ML) modules as you wish.
- If you have credit for previous study on another course or at another institution (‘Accreditation for Prior Learning’) which might count towards CB, seek advice from the Helpzone Adviser.
