Brief Biography
Martin began his career working for a charity in a number of North London Boroughs. He completed his social work qualification in 1981 working for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in a variety of fieldwork and day care roles. Martin moved to Gloucestershire in 1987 to set up the mental health day care service following the planned closure programme of Coney Hill and Horton Road Hospitals. In 1992, he became a Training Officer with the County Council and developed, together with Health colleagues, mental health training across health & social care. Additionally he developed and provided Approved Social Worker Training across the South West Region. This ASW course was the first in the country to include service users and carers in 1995. As lead trainer mental health mental health, training was developed to include the voluntary and private sector. Martin later went on to become the Training Manager for the social services department until he transferred to the Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Trust in 2001 as Assistant Director Training & Education, before returning to his substantive post.
