Dr Jane Monckton-Smith Contact Jane Monckton-Smith is a former police officer who gained her doctorate in Criminology from Cardiff University. She came to Gloucestershire from the University of Southampton where she lectured in Applied Social Science and Criminology. Since coming to the University of Gloucestershire she has developed the new Forensic Investigation strand to the BSc Criminology degree. Her doctoral thesis was a Foucauldian Discourse Analysis focusing on police and media responses to homicide and serious sexual assault and her recent research explores crime narratives in cases of Homicide. She has two books forthcoming for 2010: Relating Rape and Murder: Narratives of sex, death and gender and Murder, Gender and the Media, both for Palgrave Macmillan.
