Dr Pekka Pitkanen Position Contact Dr Pekka Pitkänen is a lecturer for the Open Theological College (currently course leader). His first degree is in computer science and economics (BSc+MSc) from Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki, Finland. He has an MDiv in theology from Chongshin University, Seoul, Korea, and a PhD on Old Testament studies from University of Gloucestershire. His thesis has been published as "Central Sanctuary and Centralization of Worship in Ancient Israel: from the Settlement to the Building of Solomon's Temple", (Piscataway, N.J.: Gorgias Press 2003). Dr Pitkänen is currently completing a commentary on Joshua for Apollos Old Testament commentary series (Leicester: IVP, forthcoming 2010). His main research interests include Israelite history and historiography, ancient Near Eastern studies (including the main languages of the area), archaeology, biblical criticism and sociological and anthropological approaches to biblical studies. He also deals with all major aspects of theological studies as part of his work at the Open Theological College. |
