What types of accommodation are available to Part-Time students?

University Registered Lodgings and University Registered Housing*

What is Lodgings?

This is accommodation where you live in the landlord’s home.  The University advertise these properties, but no visits have been made and the University does not manage or allocate these rooms. You would not sign a contract in this type of accommodation, although you would give notice as agreed with the landlord usually between one week and one month. Find our more in our ‘A GUIDE TO USING THE UNIVERSITY LODGINGS’ document.

Where do I get the latest Registered Lodgings lists from?

Lists can also be requested by emailing accommodation@glos.ac.uk or by calling 01242714544. The Lodging list for the 2010/11 will be availible for May 2010.

I’ve found Lodgings, what do I do next?

Arrange the details with the landlord. Get clarification on rent payment, bills and how much notice to give before vacating. If you have any further questions please come along to the Accommodation office and see a Housing Adviser.

I want to move out of lodgings before the end of the academic year, is that possible?

You don’t sign a tenancy in Lodgings so you normally just have to give notice before you leave (notice agreed with the landlord before you move in.)

What is University Registered Housing?

These are flats and houses that landlords have registered with the University that meet high safety standards and have been visited by Accommodation Staff.  These are not managed or allocated by the University.  Students contact the landlord directly to arrange viewings.  It is important that you view a property before signing a contract. The tenancy period for a student house is usually from Mid-September to June.

* As a Part-Time student you will be liable for council tax. Due to this, some landlords don’t rent to Part-time students. Make sure you clearly state you are a part-time student when contacting landlords. To find our more about council tax please call the council tax helpline on 01242264161

Where do I get the latest Registered Housing lists from?

You download the current 2007/08 housing list from the following website.
List can also be requested by emailing accommodation@glos.ac.uk or by calling 01242714544.

The 2009/10 housing list is now availible. Click on this link for more details. The 2010/11 list will be availible from late November 2009.

Are there any other places I can look for Accommodation?

You might find the following website useful.
This site features a search engine which is a good way to find a suitable property for your needs. Also try www.accommodationforstudents.com

I’ve found a house, what do I do next?

The landlord will ask you pay a deposit to sign a tenancy. Please read through our 'Student Housing Guide'  before doing this. If you have any further questions or would like someone to look through your tenancy please come along to the Accommodation office and see a Housing Adviser.

I want to move out of my house before the end of the academic year, is that possible?

Details on these should be clearly stated in your tenancy. Contracts normally state you will be liable for the rent of your room until a replacement is found.

If I leave University will I be liable for rent for the whole year?

Details on these should be clearly stated in your tenancy. Contracts normally state that if you decide to leave University you will be liable for rent up to the day you vacate your room plus a cancellation fee. However, this is not always the case so make sure you are fully aware before you sign your tenancy.

Can Part Time students live in Halls of Residence?

Unfortunately, Halls of Residence are reserved for Full Time Undergraduate students.

What pastoral care is offered to students in Registered Housing?

The accommodation office is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and Friday, 9am to 4pm. There will always be a member of the Housing Team present to offer you support and guidance. You can also call us on 01242714544 or email accommodation@glos.ac.uk
