International Post Graduate Frequently Asked Questions When you have decided to come to the University of Gloucestershire it is important to make arrangements for accommodation as soon as you can. Please read the information below carefully and then to make an accommodation request, you should click on the application form below, complete this, and return it via email to: accommodation@glos.ac.uk Accommodation Application Form 2009/10 The types of accommodation are listed as follows: Halls of Residence Halls are reserved for new undergraduate students. You will see the range of prices listed on the application, and further details can be found at the following link: Halls of Residence. It is important to be aware of the type of environment you will experience in halls. As halls mainly house new first year undergraduates, they can be quite lively, noisy places. You will be sharing with other students in groups ranging from 4 to 10. When you agree to take a place in a Halls of Residence, you sign a contract, which means you will be liable to pay rent for the full academic year. This means if you change your mind and wanted to live elsewhere you would still have to pay for the room in residence. Therefore you should think about this carefully before deciding. Find out more about applying for Halls of Residence here. University Registered Flats and Houses These are flats and houses that landlords have registered with the University, that meet high safety standards and have been visited by Accommodation Staff. These are not managed or allocated by the University. Students contact the landlord directly to arrange viewings. It is important that you view a property before agreeing to let it, therefore if you wish to take this option then you need to ensure that you have temporary accommodation arranged for your arrival (see section below). You will sign a contracts with the landlord for these houses, and this will also mean that you will have to pay the rent for the period of that contract (usually to July) even if you change your mind. Click here to find out more information about University Registered Housing. Lodgings This is accommodation where you live in the landlord’s home. The University advertise these properties, but no visits have been made and the University does not manage or allocate these rooms. Again, you should ensure you have made arrangements for temporary accommodation on your arrival and you will need to visit these properties before agreeing to rent. You would not sign a contract in this type of accommodation, although you would give notice as agreed with the landlord usually between one week and one month. Click here to find out more information about University Registered Lodgings. Temporary Accommodation Local Bed & Breakfast accommodation, including hotels. For this type of accommodation you can contact the local tourist office, or click on the following link, http://www.visitcheltenham.com. Below there is also an attachment giving details of local B&B accommodation. This type of accommodation can be quite expensive, so you should try to only book for a couple of nights, and then find permanent accommodation. |
