Departmental Restructure
Whilst the current structure has been in place and has worked quite well for a number of years, the University is now faced with some significant challenges to reduce operating costs whilst sustaining and/or improving the overall level of service to students and staff. Find out more
Adobe Software
The University has recently bought a site-licence for Adobe's Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Dreamweaver and Flash. This will soon be available on all PCs and Macs across all three campuses. Find out more

Student Villanet
As part of ICT Services on going improvements to the student Villanet and in response to issues raised by The Student Survey, several intersite links between the Student Halls of Residences and the main University campuses have been upgraded. This will result in an improvement to the service that students experience whilst living in the Halls of Residence.

Reducing the University's Carbon Footprint
A recent Harvard study suggests that ICT consumption within organisations account for between 13% and 25% of the institution?s peak electrical load. These figures make it clear that university-wide efforts to save energy in the area of ICT will be crucial in reducing the University?s carbon footprint by 30% by 2014. Find out more
What is Videoconferencing?
Using live video and audio, videoconferencing allows you to hold or participate in meetings, conferences or seminars without leaving university grounds. Almost all universities, major companies and research establishments both home and abroad now have these facilities which provide free communications over the Internet. Find out more
Toshiba Carbon Zero Scheme
The University approved manufacturer of laptops (Toshiba) is operating a scheme to offset the lifetime carbon footprint of their laptops. This means that for every Toshiba laptop purchased by the University, a tree is planted at no additional cost. Trees planted under the scheme will contribute towards the new Toshiba dedicated woodland areas in Devon or Cumbria which are managed by C02Balance.
Doing Our Bit for the Environment
The department is fully supportive of the University?s sustainability agenda, and is committed to reducing energy costs through the effective use of ICT in the institution. The department produced a report in response to a set of recommendations produced by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee).
