'Home & EU' or 'Overseas' fee status?

All students studying at UK Universities have to pay tuition fees. The fees you pay depend on whether you are classified as a 'Home & EU' or 'Overseas' student. The regulations for 'Home & EU fee status' are set by the British Government.

Home & EU Students

A student from the following Countries can qualify for 'Home and EU' status, however, he/she must also meet the three criteria below to demonstrate that he/she has a relevant connection to the UK/EU:

Austria

Greece

Portugal

Belgium

Hungary

Romania

Bulgaria

Ireland

Slovakia

Cyprus

Italy

Slovenia

Czech Republic

Latvia

Spain

Denmark

Lithuania

Sweden

Estonia

Luxembourg

 UK

Finland

Malta

France

Netherlands

Germany

Poland

A student has a relevant connection with the UK/EU if all of the following are met:

  • He/she has been ordinarily resident in the UK/EU throughout the three year period before the start of his/her course, and
  • The main purpose of your residence in the UK/EU must not have been to receive full-time education during any part of the three year period, and
  • He/she has been given 'indefinite leave to remain'

Overseas Students

'Overseas' students are those who do not have a relevant connection with the UK.

Students from the three other Countries making up the European Economic Area (EEA) are classified as Overseas students (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and therefore pay overseas fees.
