CVs, Applications and Interviews

Booking a Career Meeting

You can book 30 minutes of individual guidance (the Career Meeting) with a Careers Consultant to get help with CVs, applications and interviews. Just call us on 01242 714795, come in or email to book a slot at one of our daily sessions.

You will be asked to give a brief idea of what you'd like to discuss at the meeting and asked for your phone number, in case we need to contact you again about your appointment.

You can book an appointment up to a week in advance and at the end of your meeting, you will receive an individual action plan sheet to help you with the next step.

You can also use our online service if you prefer.

It's essential to promote yourself effectively in the job market and your CV is a vital part of this process.  We have put together a new job application pack to get you started, and to  help you to make the most of yourself and your achievements. We also recommend that you look at this section on Prospects website.

You are welcome to book an appointment to discuss your CV with us but we suggest that you look at the checklist in the Job application pack (925Kb Adobe PDF) before you bring along your draft copy.

You can also use our online guidance service to send us your CV for some feedback.

Applications

Having problems with those tricky questions? Why not bring in or send in your draft answers, whether it is for graduate training scheme or a Postgrad Certificate in Education (PGCE), and we can help you sort out your ideas so that you can make an effective application. You can also view the excellent video, called 'Your Job's Online' which will give you some useful tips on how to fill in those challenging application form.

Useful resources include the booklet 'Applications, CVs and Covering letters', AGCAS (take away copies are available from the Careers Centre), a folder in our Information room, called 'Application Forms', containing examples, magazine articles, employers comments, expert advice from careers professionals.

Interviews

If you would like help with your interview technique, book yourself in to one of our daily appointment sessions and get some advice from a Careers Consultant. You can also visit the information room and read one of the many books on interviewing techniques and access our online resources page for help on this topic.

Selection Centres

Do you have to make a presentation? Are you worried by the prospect of completing graduate assessment tests? What else goes on at  a Selection Centre? We can put your mind at rest by talking about how best to approach the tasks you are likely to find at a graduate assessment centre and we also hold a range of reference books to help you prepare. Check out what to expect by viewing the AGCAS DVD 'The Assessment Centre'
