University of Gloucestershire

Why Choose Us?

Park Campus student accommodation

Accommodation

Starting from £67 a week, most halls of residence rooms feature en-suite accommodation and Broadband Internet access. We offer a range of accommodation to meet the needs of all our students, so if halls aren’t for you, we can still help you make the right move.

Flexibility

Take charge and plan your own route through your degree. With an extensive range of combinations available, you can focus on just one subject for a Single Honours Degree, or combine two for a Joint Honours Degree. We believe in education for all, so many courses feature part-time options and we welcome students from overseas.

Quality Education

Passionate and enthusiastic, our staff provide high quality teaching relevant to the working world, and our Environmental programmes have achieved 'Centre of Excellence' status. Open late into the evenings, our learning centres offer a range of excellent resources along with free training sessions to help you make the most of them.

University 'Unimotion' bus

FREE Bus Service

Running between all four campuses and the centre of Cheltenham and Gloucester, the University’s free bus service is just one aspect of our commitment to a sustainable transport strategy. Students are also eligible for free travel on an extended number of Stagecoach services as far afield as Hereford and Oxford.

Cheltenham high street

Location

Healthy rail and road links bring the benefits of London, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Oxford and Stratford-Upon-Avon closer to home. And from the Cotswolds to the Forest of Dean you can get closer to the county’s natural beauty with hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor pursuits.

Financial Benefits

Accommodation, food, books and much more besides, meeting the cost of living is always a worry, especially for students. But those applying for full-time courses starting in 2007 may be eligible for part of the £1.8 million financial support package, rising to £2.4 million for 2008. And top bursaries are available to many undergraduate students in receipt of Government maintenance grants, progression rewards and discounts for early payment.

Sports Scholarships

Open to all first year undergraduates for any sport recognised by Sport England, the Sports Scholarship Programme boasts a wealth of opportunities including the launch of England’s first University Football and Rugby Referee scholarships.

Values

Founded on Christian values, the University welcomes students of all religious faiths and none. Providing a network for worship within the University and local community, we have two chaplains, two outreach workers. We’re also assisted by advisers from the Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh faith communities. And from childcare advice to counselling, University staff are here to help, no matter what issues you may face.

Students partying

Socialising

With vibrant nightlife, bars, restaurants, theatres and festivals, Cheltenham and Gloucester have something for everyone. Hosting everything from cocktail parties to quiz nights at its four bars, the Student’s Union (SU) also organise larger events at venues such as the Cheltenham Racecourse, with 5,000 students dressing up for this year’s Summer Ball. The SU publishes a fortnightly student newspaper, runs a Jobshop, recruits volunteers and raises money for charity.

Work Placements

Putting classroom principles into practice, work placements are available on many courses, providing greater employment opportunities and the chance to learn new skills on the job. A quarter of business placement students return to their sandwich year employer after graduating, and the University’s Careers Centre is here to help you gain work-related skills for the future.

Industry Links

Investing in good industrial relations has helped us forge strong links with the business world. We welcome visiting fellows from companies as diverse as EMI, Cadbury and Intel. And our Centre for Enterprise and Innovation is dedicated to fostering business relationships throughout the county.

Sport and Clubs

Whether it’s real ale or rowing, more than 50 sports and clubs are currently represented at our Students' Union. Traditional activities rub shoulders with more unusual interests and teams compete on a weekly basis.

Going Green

By taking our future seriously we don’t take the planet for granted. As the first English university to gain ISO 14001, we’ve used green electricity since the early 1990s, and every campus has facilities for recycling cans, glass and plastics. And after introducing Fairtrade foods and beverages into our campuses, we are proud to have been awarded Fairtrade University status.
