CeAL Resources; Case Studies in Active Learning and Undergraduate Research Call for Case Studies in Active Learning CeAL is collecting a range of examples from other Higher Education Institutions in the UK and overseas of the way in which active learning is embedded in different learning contexts, disciplines and educational systems. Readers are invited to submit their own case studies. A proforma which may be used to structure the examples is available here: Completed case studies and any queries should be sent to: Mick Healey Invitation to Submit Undergraduate Research Case Studies As part of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) Leadership Programme on Undergraduate Research and our National Teaching Fellowship project on ‘Leading and promoting undergraduate research’, the University of Gloucestershire, based at Cheltenham UK, is collecting case studies at course, department and institutional levels from Higher Education Institutions in the UK and overseas. These are displayed on the Centre for Active Learning (CeAL), an international centre of excellence, website. Our definition of undergraduate research includes Boyer’s (1990) scholarships of discovery, integration and application (engagement) and is characterised by breadth:
The core of undergraduate research is how the student engages in or is exposed to research processes, activities, methods or culture, whether in connection with disciplinary research, community development or knowledge transfer activities. For the purpose of these case studies we are excluding dissertations, theses and projects associated with Honours courses. We provide two proformas below and some brief examples of undergraduate research at:
Note: It is section 5 on each form that is most important and needs to be a minimum of 500 words. They are generic templates which you should use if you find them helpful. Completed case studies and any queries should be sent to: Professor Mick Healey, Director CeAL
